Aug 17, 2022 @ 10:22
Currently, Volvo Trucks offer Battery Electric Trucks which run on renewable fuels such as biogas, but Fuel Cell Electric Trucks will soon be added to Volvo's product portfolio and will become available in the second half of the decade.
"Fuel Cell Electric trucks will be especially suitable for long distances, heavy energy-demanding journeys and could be an option in countries where battery charging possibilities are limited" Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks
- Only emits water vapor
- Produces its own electricity onboard
- Operational range of up to 1,000km
- Refueling time of less than 15 minutes
The fuel Cell can generate its own electricity from the hydrogen onboard, instead of being charged from an external source.
Roger Alm highlights how "A combination of Battery Electric and Fuel Cell Electric will enable customers to completely eliminate C02 emissions from their truck."
Volvo Trucks are driving the electric truck revolution, as market leader in the all-electric heavy trucks market in Europe, holding the largest market share of 42%. The ability to offer customers zero-emission electric trucks is proving to be an indispensable competitive advantage for Volvo Trucks.
